Spiritual Gift: Teaching
Explain how you came to know Christ.
For most of my life, I really thought I became saved when I was 11.
However, I didn't know or believe that Jesus was God in the flesh (and
therefore was not saved). When I came to know that Jesus was God, I
was around 22 years old
—
it was shortly after I began attending South
Shore Baptist Church.
I was scared and shocked when I realized that
for all those years I was not saved
—
in college I led a gospel choir,
studied the bible, and told a lot of people about Jesus, but the Holy
Spirit had never revealed to me that Jesus was God. I am so thankful that
Jesus brought me to Himself to really know who He is . . . "Unless you
believe that I AM, you will die in your sins" . . . "You believe in God,
believe also in ME."
What are your musical influences?
Musically I have always been a Stevie Wonder fan
—
I can probably
recite most songs ever recorded by Stevie. However, in actuality, I hardly
ever listen to non-Christian music anymore. It tends to bore me. My gospel
music influences include Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin. Currently in my
CD players around the crib and in the car are Lisa McClendon, Ty Tribbett
and GA, Richard Smallwood, Israel, and Nichole Nordeman.
What books of the Bible have most
influenced you?
This is a weird question because the bible is so interrelated. Ummmm,
I'll say Jeremiah, Psalms, Genesis, Ecclesiates, I and II Samuel, Isaiah,
each of the Gospels (I could read about Jesus ALL the time!), I John . . .
okay, I don't like this question anymore. I really can find so much to
love in the scriptures.
What has your experience with Joshua
Jeneration been like?
I love working with this group. They have become a part of me . . .
Joshua has become like an extended church cell. When we rehearse and share
with one another, I really mean it when I say I consider the members of
the group like family. I think we have been through a lot together
privately
— to the point we can be honest with one another when someone
is slipping in his or her walk or doing something that is unChristlike.
